Description:
Mumefural was discovered by Dr. Yuji Kikuchi and his research team of National Food Research Institute in 1999. They found that the fruit-juice concentrate of the Japanese apricot (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc), a traditional Japanese food, markedly improved the fluidity of human blood. Using HPLC, they isolated the active compounds and characterized them
using UV, MS, IR, and NMR. They included a novel compound, mumefura and a related compound, 5-hydroxymethyl- 2-furfural (HMF). Dr. Kikuchi's research has revealed that Mumefural markedly improved blood fluidity in all subjects, while HMF worked differently in different individuals. Recently, it has been reported that Mumefural from Japanese apricot fruit
juice concentrate shows multiple inhibitory effects on pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus (Sriwilaijaroen, Kadowaki, Onishi, Gato, Ujike, Odagiri, Tashiro and Suzuki Food Chem 127(1):9 (2011) .
