Ginnalin A is a natural compound that has reactive properties. It can be used as a means of detecting the physiological function of skin cells and for identifying the carcinoma cell lines. Ginnalin A also shows apoptotic effects against various cancer cell lines, and is an effective anticancer drug at low doses. The mechanism by which it induces apoptosis is still unclear, but it may be due to its ability to bind to response elements in the promoter region of genes. Ginnalin A also has been shown to induce apoptosis by hydrogen-bond formation with DNA polymerase.
