Piperidine is an important pharmacophore, a privileged scaffold and an excellent heterocyclic system in the field of drug discovery. A recent analysis of FDA-approved drugs revealed that 59% of small molecule drugs contain at least one N-heterocycle, of which saturated piperidine is the most prevalent. On the other hand, the incorporation of fluorine atoms into piperidine scaffolds can modulate the physicochemical properties of biologically active compounds (alkaline, lipophilic, or water-soluble), as well as to improve affinity and metabolic stability. So far, Chemscene has developed many fluorinated piperidine building blocks.
