Microglia Activation and AMPA regulation in the Focus
Focus Microglia Activation: new rat monoclonal Galectin-3 antibody
Galectin-3, also referred as Gal-3 or Mac-2, is a β-galactosidase binding protein that is predominantly located in the cytoplasm and shuttles into the nucleus. In addition, it is secreted to the cell surface and into biological fluids. This protein is like a jack of all trades with many biological functions depending on its localization. Galectin-3 is involved in physiological processes like cell growth, cell differentiation, cancer pathogenesis, inflammation, fibrogenesis, migration, apoptosis, host defense and more. An exciting new role for galectin-3 has been proposed in disease-associated microglia (DAMs). It has been shown that galectin-3 is highly expressed in activated microglia, but not in resting ones makeing it an interesting target/marker in neurodegenerative research. This rat monoclonal antibody from HistoSure performs extremely well in WB, IHC and FFPE (IHC-P) applications. More information about markers for activated microglia can also be found here.
Indirect immunostaining of PFA fixed mouse brain section from a mouse stroke model (middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO)) 14 days post-intervention with rat anti-Galectin-3 (cat. no. HS-477 017; dilution 1:500; red) and Guinea pig anti-IBA1 (cat. no.. HS-234 308; dilution 1:500; green). Galectin-3 expression is restricted to the stroke area region. Nuclei have been visualized by DAPI staining (blue).
Focus AMPA regulation: rabbit polyclonal antibody against Tarp gamma-8, perfectly suited for ICC, IHC and FFPE (IHC-P) applications
Ligand gated cation channels of the AMPA subtype are composed of different GluA subunits and interact with a family of proteins termed transmembrane AMPA-receptor regulatory proteins (TARPs). These proteins regulate the surface expression and biophysical properties like the gating time of AMPA glutamate receptors. One key feature of Tarp-gamma2 (Stargazin) and Tarp-gamma8 (also referred to as Cacng8) is the differential regulation of synaptic strength in the hippocampus that is determined by the number and density of AMPA glutamate receptors involved in synaptic plasticity and learning. Tarp-gamma8 shows high expression levels in the hippocampus and is only sparsely expressed in other brain areas.

Focus microglia again: chicken monoclonal antibody against TMEM119
TMEM 119, also referred to as OBIF, is an excellent marker for microglia in the brain. In contrast to other established microglia-marker proteins, TMEM 119 is specific for CNS microglia and cannot be found on other macrophages which may migrate into the brain under pathological conditions. TMEM 119 displays a high variability among different species, that require antibodies tailored for nearly each species. This new antibody is mouse-specific and complements perfectly our well-established group of other antibodies against TMEM119.

New products in our portfolio that I would also like to bring into your focus. Three of them are new members of our rapidly growing family of recombinant antibodies. The recombinant antibodies have several advantages over "normal" antibodies, including the reduction of animals use in antibody production. |
- anti-Cannabinoid receptor CB1-R, a recombinantly produced chicken monoclonal antibody
- anti-Munc18-1, a recombinantly produced rabbit monoclonal antibody
- anti-m6A, a recombinantly produced rabbit monoclonal antibody against N6-methyladenosine
- anti-BCAS1, a mouse monoclonal antibody against a protein specific for an actively myelinating oligodendrocyte subpopulation
- anti-CaBP5, a rabbit polyclonal antibody against the retina-specific calcium binding protein
- anti-Kir2.3, a rabbit polyclonal antibody against this inward rectifier potassium channel
