Introduction

Benzoxaborole is a versatile boron-heterocyclic scaffold that has found a broad spectrum of applications in medicinal chemistry over the past 10 years, owing to its unique physicochemical properties and drug-like characteristics. From the structural standpoint, benzoxaborole combines the hallmarks of boronic acids and cyclic boronic esters, with most of its exceptional properties deriving from the strong Lewis acidity of the boron atom as well as the presence of a hydroxyl group on it. Recent studies have shown that benzoxaborole can act as bioisosteres of phosphate and benzoic acid. The incorporation of the benzoxaborole moiety into drug design has led to the discovery of new classes of antibacterial, antifungal, antiprotozoal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory agents, offering exciting prospects for drug development. So far, Chemscene has developed many benzoxaborole building blocks.
